Hacoupian Clothing Industrial Unit is the first and largest industrial designer and manufacturer of clothing in Iran. Sombat Hacoupian, the founder of the company, entered the tailoring profession when he was a teenager, and after years of gaining experience, he established a small workshop in Tehran in 1970. At the beginning of the 80s, that workshop became an industrial company and a family business with long-term and thoughtful goals. By launching the technology of the third millennium of the clothing industry in the production lines of this company, the art of tailoring was combined with the industry.
Hacpoupian currently has 24 chain stores across the country and more than 400,000 subscribers. All the products are available all over the country at the same time and at the same price. Hacoupian’s products are with a special eye on details, which are a manifestation of the three main beliefs of the company, namely, dignity, beauty and quality. This artistic expertise creates a personal and unique experience using the best English, Italian, German and Turkish fabrics by experienced tailors and supervised by Italian experts.
Now with five decades of experience, Hacoupain is no longer just a supplier of a product, but a prestigious and well-known Iranian brand.

Hacoupian Story
From the end of the Qajar dynasty, with the visit of the Qajar kings and some of the intellectuals of that time to foreign countries, there were some changes in clothing, and after that there were movements in the design and sewing of clothes; for example, the first sewing machine along with a Caucasian tailor was brought by Mozaffaruddin Shah as a souvenir from abroad to Tehran so that the clothes of the courtiers could be sewn by a sewing machine, and this matter indicates that in that era all the clothes were handcrafted.
History says that the first modern style suit was brought to Iran during the era of Ahmad Shah, and gradually with the tendency of Iranian men, especially the intellectuals and nobles to wear modern clothes, the tailoring profession flourished, and craftsmen like Martio Toutounian and Hosep Tatavousian, who were also called tailors, became active and famous in the Qajar court. . Martio Toutounian had been awarded several medals in various countries. . Naser al-Din Shah also awarded him the Imperial Order of the Lion and the sun.
But the design and sewing of clothes during the era of Pahlavi dynasty was influenced by the modernity of the West and the culture of clothing consumption in Iran was changed in an imperative manner and accordingly, the design and sewing of clothes was accompanied by evolution. Although this authoritative change cut off the relation of society, especially the clothing and textile designers from our fruitful history in this field, in spite of the outbreak of World War II and the occupation of the country, a significant growth took place in this profession; i.e., in less than 50 years, not only tailoring developed as a strong guild, but the field of clothing design entered higher education in a limited way, and industrial steps were also taken with the establishment of the first clothing factories.

Sombat Hacoupian, the founder, entered fashion and fashion-making in the second half of the forties, and in the late forties he established a relationship with a fashion academy in Europe and regularly received its publications, which continues to this day. In the early fifties, the art of fashion and fashion making, especially in women’s clothing, came out of the corner of the houses and entered the society through live fashion shows in public places such as hotel lounges. In the early fifties, Mr. Hacoupian’s models appeared on the scene, especially in the men’s field, and in 1974 at the Bargrez Fashion Festival, his models were the first in design and sewing, and then in 1954, they took a big step in the fashion of Iran by presenting a collection of women’s and men’s models, which was unprecedented in Iran until then.

This new and unprecedented step was the performance of a magnificent and live fashion show, which was held by him for the first time in Iran at the Continental Hotel in Tehran. This was the first time that an Iranian fashion designer independently held this show at such a level, and it can be said that the word fashion was first used in Iran. This matter attracted the attention of domestic and foreign media widely, and in the next step, using the models presented in this show, they printed and published Iran’s first color fashion magazine called Houcrep in the same year

The matter of publishing this magazine and holding a live fashion show was covered by international news, and Reuters news agency not only reported this news abroad, but also commented on some examples of the presented models and announced from an artistic point of view that some of the models were inspired by the clothes of the 1930s in Europe, which was very surprising for this news agency that an Iranian designer looked at the history of European clothes in those years, and even two models were inspired by the historical clothes of Iran, which received special attention. With this action of Reuters, Hacoupian’s name crossed the borders of Iran and became famous.
Despite the young age of Mr. Hacoupian and the Hacoupian company, this brand gained a special place among customers and a long-term plan was designed and set up for continued success in the future. In 1978 , the Iranian revolution was victorious and according to the routine of all revolutions, changes took place in all aspects, especially in the cultural dimension, and the culture of clothing consumption changed temporarily, and some people believed that fashion and clothing in the form of that day will have no place in the society, and on the other hand, with the beginning of the imposed war, this idea was further strengthened, so that in the early 60s, the garment factories, which were mainly owned by the government, were shut down. . However, Mr. Hacoupian by knowing the history of revolutions, especially from the Second World War, realized how everything after the war and stabilization of the revolution, especially the art of designing clothes, would return to normal conditions. Also, the experience of European countries realized this prediction, for example After the Second World War, Italy moved with such speed in this field that it left behind the most advanced countries in the world, e.g., England and France.
Due to his firm belief in the progress of this profession, successful cooperation was done to prevent the closure of government factories, and despite the restrictions that were in place for the private sector at that time, Hacoupian Company did not stop progressing and with very creative initiatives presented its plans at the International Trade Fairs held in Tehran. Its booths were always attracted by domestic and foreign visitors, and this made it more hopeful for the future.

Until the 1970s, the conditions for the private sector were still limited, and at that time Somayeh Graduate School, recently known as Shariati University, requested cooperation from Mr. Hacoupian to improve its scientific level in the field of modeling and pattern making, which was accepted by him, and he held the first course of special classes for their teachers. In this way, a new European system replaced the old, worn out and inefficient methods and he taught the students for several semesters. . After a while, he received an invitation from Al-Zahra University in the same field and he taught at that university for several years and taught the same modern European system through the compilation of specialized and professional pamphlets, which created a significant change in the entire higher education system in this field. Following these educational developments at the higher level, the field of Clothing Engineering was created at Amirkabir University for the first time, and once again he was invited to cooperate, and he cooperated to the fullest and taught students at that university for 3 to 4 semesters.
In the 1980s, when a window for the private sector was opened, Hacoupian took another unprecedented step in the path of its extensive activities, which came to fruition in 1981 and in many cases left behind the industrial age; he brought the latest technology of the third millennium in design and sewing to Iran for the first time and proudly installed and commissioned this entire project in less than two months
By using our half a century of experience in designing and sewing with the aim of preserving the artistic spirit in our products, we combined the traditional way of designing and sewing with this advanced technology, which today our dear compatriots, especially the big Hacoupian family (our honorable subscribers), are observing the related results.
In the 80’s we have presented our completely creative models by publishing our catalogs every season. This movement caused a major leap in the country’s fashion and the clothing industry. . On another step with the cooperation of some respected professors of Al-Zahra University in the direction of giving an identity to the art of design and fashion for the first time in Iran, the Iranian Fashion and Textile Designers Association was founded and Mr. Hacoupian was elected as the first Chairman of the Board of this association.
Today, fashion as the driving engine of industries, especially consumer industries, has rightly become a global issue as a responsible and productive industry in all dimensions; including artistic, social and economic aspects, and even environmental issues.

In the artistic aspect, according to the principle of diversity in clothing that most of the people worldwide are attracted to, Hacoupian has succeeded in responding to this need of everyone in the country by creating various beauties. We are satisfied with the fact that we have never used fashion as a means of shouting and controversy and have always made dignity and beauty our main goal, because socially we believe that our youngsters grow up with a rich and dignified culture and should not suffer chaos, because today success and progress require order and peace of mind and hard work.
The designers and fashion makers of the world have been working on creating a culture for the production and consumption of goods for a few decades, especially clothing made from natural materials such as wool, cotton and silk; on the one hand, it provides personal health and safety, and on the other hand, it does not cause any harm to the environment in the recycling cycle. . We have done many things in the direction of protecting the environment and changing the culture of clothing consumption in the last three decades, in a way that in our society, despite the problems with wearing clothes that have been made from natural materials, the attention of many consumers has been drawn to this. This matter has caused us to use more than 70% of natural materials in our production. . In general, due to the processes that are carried out precisely and continuously in our productions, the name of Hacoupian evokes dignity, beauty and quality for the consumer.
